NAQWA SWR-SPRING ● NAQWA SWR-SHUNGITE
RF Patent #129413  RF Patent #81722

Picture
Design

During purification, the risk of mixing purified and contaminated water is practically eliminated due to the design of the NAQWA SWR operating resource.

NAQWA SWR is made of materials approved for contact with drinking water, and there is no BPA content in any materials used in NAQWA SWR filters. The tubing used in NAQWA SWR Spring and NAQWA SWR Shungite models is made of the highest medical grade silicone. It is certified for application in medical devices where there can be no migration of any particles or chemicals imparted from tube to liquid.

The track membrane cartridge is the core element of the NAQWA SWR. This membrane is a thin polymer film of about 10 microns. Each square centimeter of this membrane is perforated with hundreds of millions of pores (holes) known as tracks. These tracks range in size from 0.2-0.4 microns in diameter (approximately 100 times thinner than a human hair). The microscopic size of these tracks ensures the highest quality water purification. And, the purification quality remains unchanged throughout the life of the NAQWA SWR operating resource (until its expiration) which has an anticipated operating capacity of up to 20,000 Liters (up to 5,000 gallons) annually.

Taste & Pre-Treatment

NAQWA SWR (SPRING and SHUNGITE) models offer similar performance. Both models offer superior water structuring, water memory removal and contaminant removal.

NAQWA SWR-SPRING offers a slightly improved flow rate over NAQWA SWR-SHUNGITE and NAQWA SWR-SPRING requires NO initial filtering of water prior to use, and may be used immediately.

NAQWA SWR-SHUNGITE features a Fullerene-Enhanced track membrane cartridge and DOES require some initial filtering of water prior to use.

Initially, the NAQWA SWR-SHUNGITE Fullerene-Enhanced cartridge may produce an excess of shungite mineral taste in the water for the first 10 liters or so (approx. 2½ U.S. gallons). Further along, the taste returns to normal. It is recommended (for improved taste) that the user allow about 2½ U.S. gallons of water to be filtered through the shungite track membrane cartridge before drinking. This is a specific feature of shungite, and people who use shungite regularly are well acquainted with its specific mineral taste, initially.

NAQWA SWR Structure

The NAQWA SWR track membrane cartridge (1) is a nano track membrane located inside a soft casing which serves as an external preliminary filtering cover that retains the larger solid particles. The track membrane (located inside the soft casing) is welded up along its perimeter and fitted with a coupling for release of the recovered drinking water through a soft outlet tube made of (non-BPA) medical silicone (3) connected to the coupling. The track membrane is wrapped around a metallic stainless frame. The frame provides rigidity to the cartridge and helps keep it immersed in water in a vertical position. The Shungite model adds a Shungite plate inside this track membrane cartridge (1).

NAQWA SWR Operation Set-Up (Fig.1)

NAQWA SWR operation is easy and includes the following 6 simple steps:

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the tube plug is removed from the outlet tube before use and placed back immediately after use to prevent bacteria from getting inside the cartridge.

NAQWA SWR operation set-up includes the following 6 simple steps:
  1. Select a container (4) to receive the recovered drinking water (This can be any plastic or glass bottle with an open top, or any other suitable receptacle, etc.).
  2. Fill the raw water container (2) with raw water and locate it 12-40 inches (30-100 cm) higher than the container to be used for the recovered drinking water (4).
  3. Take the NAQWA SWR unit out of the storage case and remove the tube plug (5) from the outlet tube (3).
  4. Immerse the NAQWA SWR cartridge (1) into the raw water container (2). Keep the free end of the outlet tube (3) out of the raw water container.
  5. For faster results, lightly suck the air out of the outlet tube, and the purification process will start within 5 seconds. Otherwise, the purification process will begin in 10-15 minutes if the unit is left alone to allow the cartridge to soak with raw water and start the process on its own.
  6. Place the free end of the outlet tube (3) into the container to be used for recovered drinking water (4).
Note. Initially, the recovered drinking water will flow steadily through the outlet tube and then change to its normal “drop-by-drop” mode.

NAQWA SWR Operation/Storage/Cleaning

In practice, cartridge cleaning generally is not needed. If needed, it may be needed only after several months of continuous operation and only when dealing with heavily contaminated water [for several months in succession]. Cartridge cleaning may be needed, perhaps, after 1 year of operation. Prior to this, simply rinsing the track membrane cartridge and preliminary filtering cover (separately) under running water is sufficient.

CAUTION!
  • During hand cleaning, do not attempt to remove the outlet tube from the coupling which connects the tube to the track membrane cartridge.
  • During hand cleaning, it is highly recommended that you plug the free end of the outlet tube with the tube plug provided. This prevents invasion of raw water, soaps or detergents, etc. into the inside of the track membrane.
  • AVOID the following actions in order to avoid damage to the NAQWA SWR track membrane:
  1. Usage of NAQWA SWR for other purposes OTHER than drinking water recovery.
  2. Back-blowing the filter cartridge through the outlet tube.
  3. Wiping the cartridge with rigid materials or brushing the cartridge.
  4. Connection of the outlet tube to a pressurized water pipeline.

MAINTENANCE: In practice, components always should be dried but do not need to be washed after each use. However, continuous use requires no drying. Washing is desired when accumulation of contaminants on the surface of the filters (track membrane cartridge, and external preliminary filtering cover) notably reduce the filter flow rate, or when the water source is of questionable quality.

CLEANING PROTOCOLS: Remove the track membrane cartridge from its external preliminary filtering cover. Open the preliminary filtering cover and thoroughly rinse it under running water. Contamination on the track membrane surface of the cartridge should be GENTLY removed only with a soft tissue or soft foam sponge. The membrane thickness is only 10 microns!!! Do not apply too much pressure on the membrane, as you may damage it!

For a more effective cartridge restoration, soak the cartridge in a 5-7% citric acid solution and let it soak for 1-2 hours. Afterwards rinse the cartridge surface under running water. The idea of using an acid solution is to speed up the cartridge cleaning process. Another effective method of cartridge treatment is cleaning in a low concentration alkaline solution with further subsequent rinsing under running water. In the latter case, dishwashing alkaline-based detergents (for washing by hand) can be used. After cleaning, assemble the cartridge in the reverse order. It is recommended not to use the first quart or so (0.5-1.0 liters) of water recovered after cartridge cleaning in alkaline solutions due to the high alkalinity of the first liter (quart) of purified water. However, in an emergency… who cares.

SUNLIGHT: Avoid exposure of NAQWA SWR recoverers to direct sunlight: In practice, direct sunlight does not affect the plastic film of the main filtering element in the NAQWA SWR. However, sunlight creates better conditions for bacteria growth.

OPERATING/STORAGE TEMPERATURE: NAQWA SWR units should be stored inside the supplied storage case to prevent external mechanical damage. They should be stored in a dry place within a temperature range of 320F–1580F (00C-700С). Storage at temperatures below 320F (00C) will cause ice to form [when there are trace amounts of water left inside the filter after operating], and ice may damage the filter track membrane. At temperatures above 1940F (900C) the glue inside the filter can be damaged leading to disintegration of cartridge elements. So it is best to store the filter within its recommended temperature range, 320F–1580F (00C-700С).

DRYING INSTRUCTIONS—LONG BREAK IN USAGE: In the event of a long break in operation [more than 5 days], remove the track membrane cartridge from the soft casing which serves as an external preliminary filtering cover. Wash and dry the track membrane and filtering cover separately. The inside of the outlet tube is NOT to be washed, and the outlet tube plug should remain inserted into the tube while washing the components. Remove the outlet tube plug after washing to allow the tube to dry completely. Once all components are completely dry, the cartridge is to be reinserted into the pre-filtering bag and then placed in the zippered storage case with the tube plug reinserted back into the tube‎. It is a standard storage recommendation to dry the filter and the outlet tube when the NAQWA SWR units are out of operation for more than 5 days. It is better to place back a dry cap onto a dry outlet tube. However, even if connected while wet, the tube will stay alright until the next filter usage since the outlet tube has had contact only with clean filtered water.

INSTRUCTIONS—SHORT BREAK IN USAGE: In the event of a short break in operation [2-5 days], it is recommended that the NAQWA SWR filter be kept in the raw water with the free end of the outlet tube hanging outside of the raw water container. Do not allow the free end of the outlet tube to be dropped into the raw water container.
